This is the directorial debut for Tony Scott and the closest in style to his brother Ridley. He would go on to mold what we think of as the modern action movie with movies like Top Gun and The Last Boy Scout.
Tony discovered the band Bauhaus in a London nightclub and decided to put them in the film. Their song Bela Lugosi is Dead plays over the opening credits and their song Stigmata Martyr plays a big part in previous episode Night of the Demons.
In 2014 Susan Sarandon revealed she and David Bowie had an affair while filming. Catherine Deneauve and cameraman Hugh Johnson also had a 2 year relationship that started with this movie.
Tony's brother Ridley was supposed to direct but passed when he heard Bowie was involved.
The movie has gone on to become a cult favorite particularly amongst Goths
