Ancient Aliens, Adult Dungeons, And The 13th Warrior: A Binge-Watcher’s Quest for Movies
In this episode of the Binge-Watchers Podcast, the crew dives deep into the worlds of history, myth, and epic movie quests. Johnny Spoiler starts off with a hilarious jab about the upcoming Ancient Aliens movie, which sets the tone for the rest of the conversation. Little did he know, he would soon find out just how passionate Ancient Aliens fans can be, as his Instagram gets flooded with messages from their die-hard community. Who knew a joke could stir up such a following?
Meanwhile, Dave is intrigued by a new Netflix show aimed at couples, which leads to an interesting side discussion about relationship dynamics and binge-watching. And Jordan, of course, can’t resist steering the conversation into the realm of their favorite podcast bits before things take a fascinating turn.
The episode continues with some epic movie talk as the crew discusses the Predator prequel Prey, which is making its debut at San Diego Comic-Con this year. If you’re a Predator fan, this is one to keep on your radar.
But tonight’s main event? The 1999 action-adventure epic, The 13th Warrior. This film stars Antonio Banderas as Ahmad ibn Fadlan, a Muslim ambassador exiled from his homeland, who finds himself joining forces with a group of rough-and-tumble Vikings. Despite initial cultural clashes, ibn Fadlan comes to respect the warriors as they unite to battle a mythical evil force, said to be nothing more than legend. But as the Vikings and ibn Fadlan soon discover, some legends are more real than they think.
In this episode, the crew reflects on the authenticity of the historical elements in the film, from the Arab poet Ahmad ibn Fadlan himself (whose writings inspired the film) to the Viking prayers that actually show up in the movie. David, being the trivia enthusiast he is, certainly should’ve included these facts in the night’s trivia sheet—but alas, he’s not exactly a fan of the whole Viking warrior genre.
And of course, no podcast episode is complete without a few side quests. One of the most unexpected moments comes when the gang talks about How to Build a Sex Room, a Netflix show that caught their attention. We won’t spoil the details, but let’s just say that it adds a little extra spice to the after-hours side of things.
