Welcome to Night 2 of 9 Nights of Spoilaween.

Tonight we're attempting something far more dangerous than confronting Michael Myers.

We're explaining the Halloween franchise timeline.

Johnny Spoiler drags Jordan Savage through one of horror cinema's greatest continuity puzzles: the many lives, deaths, reboots, retcons and resurrections of Michael Myers.

The original Halloween is simple enough.

Then things happen.

Sequels appear. Sequels get ignored. Characters return. Timelines disappear. Laurie Strode's history changes. Michael dies approximately four thousand times and reacts to death like it's a minor scheduling inconvenience.

At a certain point, explaining Halloween starts sounding like you're describing several alternate universes that happen to contain the same guy wearing a William Shatner mask.

And that's part of why we love it.

Few horror franchises have been rebuilt as many times while keeping the same beautifully simple premise:

Michael Myers is outside.

That's bad.
