There’s something about old horror anime that modern stuff can’t recreate. The atmosphere feels dirty, lonely, cursed. Mermaid Forest turns immortality into pure psychological horror instead of a superpower fantasy.
The cave monsters, the rotting transformations, the retro OVA vibes, the tragic characters trying to outrun death for centuries… it all hits different.
Also realized how much rare anime is slowly disappearing unless fans preserve it themselves. Some of these OVAs basically survived through bootlegs and word of mouth.
