Night of the Demons: The Underrated ’80s Horror Party You Need to Crash
Demons, mutant boobs, and Halloween chaos — what’s not to love?
Tonight, we’re diving deep into an awesome ’80s horror series that somehow flew under our radar for too long — Night of the Demons. If you’re into creepy Halloween parties gone wrong, demon possession, and wicked practical effects, this cult classic and its sequels have everything you didn’t know you needed.
Also known as Halloween Party to some, Night of the Demons (1988) is an American horror flick that takes the Halloween party trope and cranks it up to eleven. Ten high school seniors throw down in an isolated mortuary for a night of fun — until a séance opens a door to a demon trapped in the crematorium, and things get very bad, very fast.
Fun fact: it was filmed in South Central Los Angeles over two months and directed by Kevin S. Tenney, who also helmed the Witchboard series, Demolition University with Corey Haim, and the delightfully weird Pinocchio’s Revenge.
The original got love enough for two sequels:
Night of the Demons 2 (1994) brings back Angela from Hell, this time targeting her sister Melissa and a Catholic school crew dragged back into Hull House six years later.
Night of the Demons 3 (1997) (also called Demon House in the UK) is a direct-to-video trip where teen vandals hide from cops in Hull House and find themselves hunted by Angela and her demon crew.
Plus, there was a 2009 remake, but that’s a whole different horror party for another time.
Favorite Bits From the Franchise:
The legendary naughty lipstick trick (you’ll know it when you see it).
The hilarious “Sour Balls” dialogue joke.
The wild escape through barbed wire scene that’s pure adrenaline.
A razor blade Halloween prank that backfires on a cranky neighbor.
Mutant breasts that literally kill. Yes, you read that right.
A nun with serious Rambo skills—because why not?
The resident demon expert who’s just trying to keep things from going full apocalypse.
It’s messy. It’s fun. It’s weird. It’s full of practical effects and quirky characters that don’t take themselves too seriously. And honestly? That mix of horror and camp is what makes Night of the Demons a cult favorite for horror nerds and Halloween lovers alike.
If you haven’t already, queue it up this October — and trust us, don’t skip the sequels.
