Summer Slash: Scorpion Thunderbolt, Snake Monsters, and One Last Trip Back 2 Da Hood
What do you get when you mash up mutant actresses, cursed rings, mustache seduction, and a giant snake creature terrorizing Hong Kong?
You get Scorpion Thunderbolt, the wildest VHS Frankenstein I’ve stumbled across this summer—and that’s saying something. Welcome to Summer Slash #7, where z-movie legends collide with horror franchises that just won’t die and Netflix decides to make Happy Gilmore 2 a real thing.
🐍 The Z-Movie That Bit Back: Scorpion Thunderbolt
If you’ve never seen Scorpion Thunderbolt, imagine if a witch stole your ring, your snake pet turned into Godzilla’s drunk cousin, and your movie had an identity crisis halfway through. This bonkers martial arts monster flick cuts and pastes Taiwanese horror (Grudge of the Sleepwalking Woman, 1983) with new footage starring Richard Harrison—who, by the way, lived a cinematic life cooler than most fictional characters.
Is it a good movie? No. Is it a vibe? Absolutely.
Weird experimental theater scenes, magical jewel heists, and freeze-frame endings—this is a deep VHS cut only the most caffeinated Tubi bingers will appreciate.
📞 Home Video Headlines: Black Phone 2, The Long Walk, and More
What’s hot this week?
Black Phone 2 – The Grabber’s back from the dead and more powerful than ever. Winter camp horror, psychic kids, and ghost phones? Count us in.
The Long Walk – Teens in a deadly walking contest where the losers get shot? Yeah, that’s not subtle, but it sounds thrilling.
Him – A rising football star joins a remote training cult. It’s Whiplash meets The Invitation? Maybe.
Also, Netflix dropped Happy Gilmore 2. The best parts are the nostalgia flashbacks, the golf cart crash during Happy’s “Dark Night of the Soul,” and—sorry, not sorry—it’s still not better than the original.
🍀 Summer Slash 7: Leprechaun: Back 2 Da Hood
We’re technically on part 6, but we skipped Leprechaun: Origins because, let’s be honest, no Warwick Davis = no real Leprechaun movie.
This final hood saga dials back the magic, ups the claws, and gives our green menace a darker, more gothic makeover. There’s even an endless box of gold. Seriously—open it, and it refills. It’s like a cursed crypto wallet.
Fun fact: They almost made "Leprechaun vs. Candyman." Tony Todd shut it down. That’s the real tragedy here.
Is the movie good? Eh. It spends too much time on bong jokes, loses its trickster vibe, and doesn’t bring enough blood. But it’s got heart—and Warwick Davis one last time.

🧟♂️ Next Week on Summer Slash…
We’re breaking format. I should be watching Hellraiser: Deader, but I’d rather see a witch and a vampire duke it out in Witchcraft 7: Judgement Hour.
Also: The Vindicator—half man, half robot, 100% corporate murder weapon.
Stay scared,
